Spiritus - Storytelling Event

Please join us for a live storytelling event on Saturday afternoon 27 August, 4–6 PM at Looiersgracht 60 in the context of Spiritus - Archiving the (un)Imaginable, a project-in-progress by Doina Kraal & Roger Cremers, invited by Radical Reversibility and Looiersgracht 60 as the first artists-in-residence of the newly installed Public Research Residency. 

Kraal and Cremers have a predilection for objects with a (long) history and are looking for ways to keep such objects alive, to revive, to (re)use and cherish them. Their works contain references to historical objects or data and in many cases a historical object or story serves as a starting point or source of inspiration. For this project, Cremers and Kraal are among others experimenting with the notion of the 'Transhistoric Gesammtkunstwerk', in which ideas and media from different eras are combined to offer multiple perspectives on the past as well as the future. The overarching theme of Spiritus is the representation and visualization of the universe and the stories that are told to describe various (speculative) phenomena, histories and future scenarios.

Several guests have been invited to bring an object with a story, that has a specific significance or value and which might function as a personal relic. The story can also be based on an encounter or an experience which was triggered by an object. Within seven minutes the invited guests will share the (hi)story of their object or experience. These stories evoke miniature time journeys, to be recorded and perhaps integrated in the final presentation of Spiritus at Looiersgracht 60 on 10 September 2022.
With stories by, among others, Mafe Maldonado, Leo Divendal, Frank van der Stok, and Finn Maätita. 

Visitors are welcome to bring their own object or experience to share a story about.

Doina Kraal
Doina Kraal works through installation and performance, and investigates how intimate and multisensory encounters imprint between object and viewer.

Roger Cremers
Roger Cremers works with historical images, such as archival imagery, magazines, and more recently the representation of images in social media, which emphasize a collective striving towards progress.

Frank van der Stok
Frank van der Stok (b. 1967) is a curator, editor, essayist and intermediary for artists and art institutions. He also works as an editor and producer of artists’ books.

Taco Hidde Bakker
Taco Hidde Bakker is a writer, teacher, translator, and curator in the field of the arts, specializing in photography. Bakker is the author of the text collection The Photograph That Took the Place of a Mountain (Fw:Books, 2018).
